Posters on Saving the Environment

Can a Poster On “Save Environment” really make a difference?

Saving the environment is a big issue with me here at Our-Environment.com, so I take it pretty seriously.

Spreading the word about what we can do to help “Save the Environment” is vital.

There is no longer any question about the effects human activity is having on our environment. Moving toward a more sustainable future should be part of our everyday life.

Like with most things, people want to do the right thing, though it can be hard to know exactly what the right thing really is?

Because we have all grown up in an environment of relatively cheap and plentiful energy, it is sometimes difficult for someone who is not “into it”, saving the environment I mean, to know where to start.

Our job (people like you who find there way here), is to help raise environmental awareness.

You are likely doing this already with what you talk about with friends, how you vote, by what you buy, and what you choose not to buy.

The winner of the Zero Carbon Challenge this year belongs to Team Collaborative Future. Their plans to build the energy efficient home in Campbelltown in South Australia later this year (2012) as part of saving or environment.

The most remarkable feature of the new home is the vine covered walls surrounding the major living areas. The walls covered in deciduous vines provide shade in summer and warmth in winter are part of the winning strategy to design a better “zero-carbon” home.

Team Collaborative Future was one of four finalists in the Zero Carbon Challenge, their job was to design a liveable, affordable & flexible home that would offset all the energy used in its construction with everyday net emissions bring zero.

The team’s lead architect, Brett Aylen, said his team took a different approach to shading, using plants in the form of “green walls”.

“The green walls are going to be covered with vines that are deciduous,” said Mr. Aylen.

“In summer it’s going to be quite green, quite dense shade – then in winter it’s going to lose leaves so you get the winter sun.”

The new designs Solar panels generated more energy every year than the household needs and will ultimately pay back in terms of energy offset the total energy used in it’s construction. The break even point of the home is 32 years, Mr Aylen said.

Integrated Design Commissioner Tim Horton said he hoped that, eventually, all four designs – each offering a “glimpse of the future” – would be built.

“The majority of Australian houses barely rate a pass, in terms of their energy efficiency,” he said.

“At a cost of around AUD$370,000, a 7.5-star rating, net zero-operational energy and a 16-week construction time, the new design ticks a lot of boxes and is a worthy winner,”

Saving Our Environment

aving our Environment means making small changes to the way we live our lives. The changes do not have to be dramatic, they don’t even have to be cool! All we have to do is focus on ways that you and I waste power, and create waste without really taking any notice of it – and change it.
